Im Reporters' Log der BBC schreibt Jonathan Marcus aus dem CentCom in Qatar um 9:22 GMT:

"Sources here at US Central Command say that they have reliable information that the Iraq regime may be planning to begin anonymous bombing campaigns in several Baghdad Shi'ite neighbourhoods in an attempt to falsely accuse the coalition of this destruction for their own propaganda purposes.

Whilst this is clearly a message with very strong propaganda implications it comes in the wake of film evidence, shown by the Americans yesterday, which they claimed showed an Iraqi vehicle exploding in a civilian area of the city and which they said there was no American, British or coalition involvement."

Ob das stimmt? Falls ja, dann zeigt es für mich - wieder einmal den Abgrund zwischen der einen und der anderen Seite in diesem Konflikt. Bewußte und gezielte Vernichtung der eigenen Zivilbevölkerung als Waffe im Kampf um die Weltöffentlichkeit!

Deprimierend ist zusätzlich, wie (naiv? dumm? willig?) Journalisten wie Peter Arnett oder - als besonders übles Beispiel - Peter W. Schroeder, der U.S.-Korrespondent meiner "unabhängigen" Lokalzeitung "Main-Echo" (275.000 Leser) sich instrumentalisieren lassen.

Aber wie der alte Rabbi sagte: "Vielleicht ist es ja doch nicht wahr." Dann nehme ich gerne alles zurück. Öffentlich.
